The Magnolia Duchess Review!!!!!!!

The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White

Book Description:
Fiona Lanier is the only woman in the tiny Gulf Coast settlement of Navy Cove. While her shipbuilding family races to fill the demand for American ships brought by the War of 1812, Fiona tries to rescue her brother who was forced into service by the British Navy.

Lieutenant Charlie Kincaid has been undercover for six months, obtaining information vital to the planned British invasion of New Orleans. When a summer storm south of Mobile Bay wrecks his ship and scatters the crew, Charlie suffers a head injury, ultimately collapsing in the arms of a beautiful mermaid who seems eerily familiar. As Charlie's memory returns in agonizing jags and crashes, he and Fiona discover that falling in love may be as inevitable as the tide. But when political loyalties begin to collide, they'll each have to decide where their true heart lies.

My Opinion:
WOW!  I absolutely LOVE the second book in this series and so I couldn't wait for this one to come out!!!!  And while Lyse's story is still my favorite in the series Fiona's story is just as entertaining!  FULL of twists and the unexpected, you feel like you MUST keep reading just to see what could possibly happen next!  And just when you think there couldn't be any more surprises Beth throws another one at you! :D  I also LOVE the way Beth writes about history!  As many of you that have read my reviews before know, history was not one of my favorite subjects in school.  So when I find an author that really brings it into and entertaining and intriguing way I'm one happy reader! :)  Lyse and Rafa make another appearance and I LOVE coming back to these characters and this family!  This new generation is as brave, adventurous, and patriotic as the last!  From Navy Cove, to Mobile, to New Orleans and back.  Filled with battles, spies, and romance (not just one, or two, but three!) The Magnolia Duchess is a fabulous adventure that is a MUST READ! :)

The Reluctant Duchess Review!!!!

The Reluctant Duchess by Roseanna M. White

Book Description:
A Riveting Edwardian Series Set among Britain's High Society
Lady Rowena Kinnaird may be the heiress to a Highland earldom, but she has never felt good enough--not for her father, not for the man she thought she'd marry, not for God. But after a shocking attack, she's willing to be forever an outcast if it means escaping Loch Morar.

Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has found himself in possession of a rare treasure his enemies are prepared to kill for. While Brice has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, the last thing he needs is the distraction of Lady Rowena, who finds herself in a desperate situation. But when Rowena's father tries to trap Brice into marrying his daughter, Brice makes a surprising decision.

Rowena wanted to escape the Highlands, but she's reluctant to marry a notorious flirt. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she's about to end up directly in the path of everything she was trying to avoid.

My Opinion:
LOVE IT!!!  Abuse, healing, redemption, romance, heartache, mystery, tragedy, humor, suspense, and SO MUCH MORE!  The Reluctant Duchess is AMAZING!  I haven't read the first in this series yet (and I stress the word yet) ;)  So while there are characters and history from the first book mentioned Roseanna has crafted it into a beautiful stand alone also!  I was blown away by how awesome this book is.  Throwing you right into the story from the beginning you don't want to put it down, and when you finish you want to start from the beginning all over again! :)  With twists and hidden enemies, you don't know which characters to trust and who will strike next!!!!  I LOVED reading how these characters grow closer to God and closer to each other!  Rowena's pain and trials tore at my heart and in a minor way I found I could relate to her.  OH and BRICE!  I love him!  He is one of my all time favorite hero characters!  With his kindness and faith!  He is awesome!  I also loved that Roseanna adds a second romance into the mix, and how she touches on acknowledging the unseen around us!  From the Highlands to lovely British estates this story takes you on an amazing journey that will leave you thinking about it long after you've finished reading!
I can't wait for the next book!

Pro baseball pitcher Cal Crawford is not a dog guy. When he inherits his deceased mother's elderly dog, Tippy, he's quick to call on a pet-sitting service.

As Gina travels through Cal's world with Tippy in tow, she begins to see Cal in a different light. Gina longs to show Cal the God-given blessings in his life that have nothing to do with baseball or fame. When her longing blooms into attraction, Gina does her best to suppress it. My Opinion:
First Impression:  Great read! :)  I was hoping that this would be a sweet little quirky read and it's that and more! :D  I LOVE the characters from main to sub and Tippy out does them all! ;)  Dana is a new author to me and I really enjoy her style of writing!  The pace is lovely, not too fast and not slow by any means!  You want to keep reading too see what's gonna happen and goodness there are some surprises!  Some pretty funny surprises to! ;)  Can Cal work through his pain to let love in, and can these three find a way to get along long enough to see what's been given to them? Song of Silence Review Part 1!!!!

Song of Silence by Cynthia Ruchti

Book Description:
Song of Silence (Abingdon, April 2016)

Music taught Lucy love and beauty. Could silence teach her hope?

Forced to retire from her position as music educator in a small Midwestern K-8 school, Lucy can only watch helplessly as the program her father started years ago disintegrates before her eyes. As the music fades and a chasm separates her form the passion of her heart, Lucy wonders if her faith's song has gone silent, too. The musical score of her life seems to be missing all the notes.

When a simple misstep threatens to silence Lucy forever, a young boy and his soundless mother change the way she sees---and hears---everything.

Website | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest

My Opinion:
I love how Cynthia can take the most stressful and terrible circumstances and still weave humor into them! :D  It's those nuggets of comic relief that make the turmoil bearable in life and in reading! :)  Oh the manipulation of some of those in charge!  It is crazy and Cynthia also portrays it to a T here!  The characters are entertaining and relatable!  You feel for Lucy as she struggles with her world being turned upside down and Cynthia writes Charlie (Lucy's husband) in such a realistic, one moment you love him and the next you want to strangle him, sort of way! LOL!  Then throw in all the other characters from unique artsy friends to loving daughters and more!  Plus filled with tons of emotion from panic, to anger, to sorrow, and beyond!  Can Lucy find her Faith again to help her move on towards an uncertain future?  TO BE CONTINUED!

The Inheritance Review

The Inheritance by Michael Phillips

Book Description:
The Inheritance (Bethany House, April 2016)

The death of the clan patriarch has thrown the tiny Shetland Islands community of Whale's Reef into turmoil.

Everyone assumed MacGregor Tulloch's heir to be his grand-nephew David, a local favorite, but when it is discovered that MacGregor left no will, David's grasping cousin Hardy submits his own claim to the inheritance, an estate that controls most of the island's land. And while Hardy doesn't enjoy much popular support, he has the backing of a shadowy group of North Sea oil investors. The courts have frozen the estate's assets while the competing claims are investigated, leaving many of the residents in financial limbo. The future of the island-and its traditional way of life-hangs in the balance.

Loni Ford is enjoying her rising career in a large investment firm in Washington, DC. Yet in spite of her outward success, she is privately plagued by questions of identity. Orphaned as a young child, she was raised by her paternal grandparents, and while she loves them dearly, she feels completely detached from her roots. That is until a mysterious letter arrives from a Scottish solicitor. . . .

Past and present collide in master storyteller Phillips's dramatic new saga of loss and discovery, of grasping and grace, and of the dreams of men and women everywhere.

About the author:

Michael Phillips is a bestselling author with more than 70 of his own titles. In addition, he has served as editor/redactor of nearly 30 more books. He is known as the man responsible for the reawakened interest in George MacDonald of the last 30 years. In addition to the MacDonald titles adapted/edited for today's reader, his publishing efforts in bringing back full-length quality facsimile editions also spawned renewed interest in MacDonald's original work. Michael and his wife, Judy, spend time each year in Scotland but make their home near Sacramento, California.

My Opinion:
Not my cup of tea.  I REALLY wanted to love this book, but sadly the style just isn't for me. I just couldn't get drawn into the story and ended up skimming chapters that sounded interesting. :/  I've had an interest in the Shetlands ever since The Lord led me to the Shetland breed of sheep and blessed me with two of these lovely woolies!  But sadly the extinct breed of Scotland Dunface Sheep was featured instead.  I REALLY love the concept of this story, but sadly I wish it was written differently and I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.  I recommend that you read the preview on christianbook.com to see if you like the style and wish to continue! :)

Book Description:

The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder (Harvest House, April 2016)

In 1910 Toronto, while other bachelor girls perfect their domestic skills and find husbands, two friends perfect their sleuthing skills and find a murderer.

Inspired by their fascination with all things Sherlock Holmes, best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem launch a consulting detective business. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city's underbelly, where the high hopes of those dreaming to make a new life in Canada are met with prejudice and squalor.

While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto's premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever---if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

My Opinion:
Nice.  I found the introduction to these books to be nice and a good description of what follows.  I love prayer!  The connection we have with our Heavenly Father is one of the dearest and most beautiful things to me! :)  It is my hope that these books will be a nice tool for anyone seeking to grow their prayer life and connect more with Jesus.  Hardcover and small enough to fit in a pocket {like the name ;) } or purse.  I think these books would make a lovely gift for family members and friends!  And excellent reminders to graduates to remain centered as they embark on a new chapter in their lives.

I was so happy when we were encouraged to give these books as gifts with this blog tour and share whom we are going to give them to.  I hope to/will be giving the book for:
-Moms: to my best friend this side of Heaven my Mama! :)
-Dads: will be gifted to my Dad of course!
-Grads: With many graduating this year I may have to get more Graduate copies to give out! :D
-Military Life: I hope to send this pocket book to my dear friend Vicky, currently in the Army
-Teachers: Our churches Teacher's Appreciation is coming up in May so I'll have many opportunities to pass that copy along as well! :)
and
-Friends: I will be passing this book onto another very dear friend of mine Pam.

My Opinion:
I'm hooked!  I started with the .5 in this series A Singular and Whimsical Problem and enjoyed getting to know these characters in that.  Instead of coming before The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder it takes place sort of in the middle of it.  Rachel writes in a style and format that is entertaining and unique from any other fiction book I've read.  While a bit fast paced, and with some character jumps that were a little tricky for me to keep up with at times, I still enjoyed the similarities to this story and those of Sherlock Holmes and Watson adventures.  Plus a romance that is one of the best I've read in a long time.  This is one of my favorite kinds of romances actually!  Where you can't help but giggle at blunders, sigh at sweetness, and gasp at turmoil! :)  Plus be left anxiously awaiting a second romance to come!  Filled with simply fabulous characters, good and bad, and a highly entertaining plot, I can't wait to see what the next case has in store for us!  To put it plainly, I'm a lot like Jem, hooked to following Merinda wherever adventure calls!

The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble-born ladies from around the country to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test these ladies and reveal their true character.

Avelina is only responsible for two things: making sure her deception goes undetected and avoiding being selected as the margrave’s bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.

Despite Avelina’s best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can’t deny her own growing feelings. But something else is afoot in the castle. Something sinister that could have far worse—far deadlier—consequences. Will Avelina be able to stop the evil plot? And at what cost?

Bride of a Distant Isle by Sandra Byrd
Bride of a Distant Isle (Daughters of Hampshire, #2)
Miss Annabel Ashton is a teacher at the Rogers School for Young Ladies in Winchester when she takes a brief visit to her family home, Highcliffe Hall at Milford-on-Sea. She believes her stay will be short but soon learns that she will not be returning to the safety of the school. Instead, she remains at Highcliffe, at the mercy of her cousin, Edward Everedge.

Annabel protests, but as the illegitimate daughter of a woman who died in an insane asylum, she has little say. Edward is running out of money and puts the house up for sale to avoid financial ruin. He insists that Annabel marry, promising her to a sinister, frightening man. But as the house gets packed for sale, it begins to reveal disquieting secrets. Jewelry, artifacts, and portraits mysteriously appear, suggesting that Annabel may be the true heir of Highcliffe.

She has only a few months to prove her legitimacy, perhaps with assistance from the handsome but troubled Maltese Captain Dell’Acqua. But does he have Annabel’s best interests at heart?

And then, a final, most ominous barrier to both her inheritance and her existence appears: a situation neither she nor anyone else could have expected. Will Annabel regain her life and property—and trust her heart—before it’s too late?

While searching for answers, donning disguises, and sneaking around where no proper ladies would ever go, they pair with Jasper Forth, a police constable, and Ray DeLuca, a reporter in whom Jem takes a more than professional interest. Merinda could well be Toronto's premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever--if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

A Twist of Faith
Book Description:
Maybe the language of love doesn’t have an accent, but with any other type of accent, Dr. Adelina Roseland feels confident she can correct it. Accent reduction is her specialty and she’s worked ten years in research with it to attain her dream job: Professor at the University of Virginia. But all rookies must pass through the fire, so Adelina is sent to a tiny town in a crevice of Appalachia called Wise, Virginia, to begin a new program for their satellite university there. Determined to prove herself, Adelina makes a daring wager with her arrogant supervisor, Dr. Alexander Murdock. If she can pass Appalachian cow farmer, Reece Mitchell, off as a Harvard grad and help him with a job interview for a corporation in Chicago, then she can present her research at the National Convention in front of her newfound colleagues and hundreds of other professionals, launching her career to further heights and moving her as far away from Appalachia as possible.

But Adelina didn’t plan for the faith and friction of single-dad Reece Mitchell or his chaotic family. Drawn into a culture she’d been trying to forget for the past fifteen years, Adelina finds the warmth of family, the hope of faith, and the joy of love melting away at the deep wounds of her past. But when Reece discovers that he’s been a mere pawn in her step up the corporate ladder, will he be able to forgive her deceit or will their miscommunication end in two broken lives.

Will some good old-fashion Appalachian grit from a meddling mother bring rescue this culturally-diverse couple before they lose their chance to build a future of their own?

When Lupita announces a plan for Josefa to move away from Persimmon Hollow to live with distant relatives in Texas and prepare for an arranged marriage, the headstrong beauty knows she has to make an audacious choice.

Will Josefa follow her dreams of glamor or submit to her aunt’s plans for stability and security? Can she find a way to use her gifts in a truly productive way?
