Without Warning Review Part 1!!!

Without Warning by Lynette Eason

Book Description:
Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats--before a would-be killer strikes again.

Witty dialogue and a simmering attraction will have readers flying through this tension-laced thriller. Eason exercises complete control of her readers' emotions as they race through the pages to discover the truth.

My Opinion:
WOW!  What a suspenseful journey! :D  I like this book even more than the first in the Elite Guardians series, and can't wait to get to know the other characters even more!  Katie and Daniel are fabulous characters!  I love their back stories, personalities, and Daniel's niece Riley! :)  Packed with action, and just enough romance, I REALLY enjoy this book!  Lynette has a way of just throwing you into the suspenseful scenes and I LOVE how both of these characters don't back done from a fight, but stand to face the threat!  Well written, intriguing plot, and a pretty good mystery!  I do wish that the base of the plot was a little more different, because I feel it's similar to the last book....But there are new spins that make it a great story!

The Artisan's Wife Review!!!!!!!

The Artisan's Wife by Judith Miller

Book Description:
Ainslee McKay's world is shaken when she discovers her twin sister has not only eloped with a man she barely knows but now Ainslee must fulfill their obligation at a tile works in Weston, West Virginia. Ainslee must learn the ropes and, if she can keep the tile works profitable, her brother will help her sell the business.

When Levi Judson arrives and shows Ainslee his designs for new tiles, she's impressed by his skill and passion for the business. But he's hiding his true reason for coming to Weston. And Ainslee knows he'd be crushed to learn his plans for a long career at McKay Tile Works are in vain since she intends to sell. Can the growing feelings between them survive if the truth comes to light--or is a future together as untenable as the future of the tile works itself?

My Opinion:
A Lovely Wrap Up!  This has been a great series that I am SO happy I've been Blessed with reading all the way through!  Following the McKay family and their businesses has been fun, entertaining, and educational!  Throughout these books I have LOVED reading about how the business was run and how the products were made.  From bricks, to pottery, and now tiles!  I found it all very captivating, and Judith writes in a way that keeps it entertaining while still filling it with historical and educational detail!  I also LOVED how she brings everything full circle and let's us know where everyone ends up whether they were good guys or not so good guys! ;)  The look into the mental health facilities at this time was also interesting, if a bit sad since things couldn't stay this way.  On the one hand things were better and on the other some things did need to change.  There were some lulls in the pace, but only slightly and then it would pick back up.  I really liked "getting to know" Ainslee more.  Since she was one of the twins I always thought of them together instead of as individual characters.  So when Judith splits them and takes us along with Ainslee I really found it fascinating and enjoyed her individualizing of this character.  Overall I recommend this series for it's entertaining and lovable characters as well as the Faith messages woven into the plots.  The books are written in a way that I think you could get away with reading them individually, but I also think that you will enjoy it more if you read them as a whole! :)

Fetching Sweetness Review!!!!!!!

Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink

Book Description:
Fetching Sweetness (Harvest House, July 2016)

Standing between Stephanie and her dream is one hundred pounds of lovable trouble.

It should have been so simple for Stephanie Pink: Meet up with Agnes Wharton in a small town in California, retrieve the reclusive author's valuable new manuscript, and be promoted to a full-fledged literary agent.

But Agnes's canine companion, Sweetness, decides to make a break for it before Stephanie can claim her prize. Until Agnes has Sweetness safely back at home in Eagle Cliff, Washington, Stephanie will never set eyes on the manuscript she needs to make her dreams come true.

When Stephanie tracks the runaway mutt to a campground, she meets Rhett Hastings---a man also on the run from a different life and a costly mistake. Rhett agrees to help Stephanie search for the missing dog . . . thus launching a surprising string of adventures and misadventures.

Once Sweetness gets added to the mix, it's a recipe for love and loss, merriment and mayhem, fun and faith in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest.

My Opinion:
GREAT READ!  I really thought the first in this series Sit, Stay, Love a really fun read and Fetching Sweetness is even better!!!  I had SO much fun reading this book!  There are hilarious scenes, great characters, lovable animals, and a whole bunch of circumstances that twist and turn but Dana brings everything together beautifully in the end!  This story has God's never ending love for us at it's heart.  Showing that no matter how bad we mess up or how hurt and angry we've been; He still loves us and wants the best for us!  The only thing I wish had been different had nothing to do with the story and everything to do with the cover.  I wish they had found a dog that looked more like the dog in the book, but then again I do LOVE that picture of the dog...with his eyes smiling and that ear!!!....so I'm torn on that!  But I digress. ;)  Overall this story is fantastic, fun, and entertaining with fabulous Faith messages and a sweet romance!  I highly recommend it!

My Opinion:
I really wanted to love this store and recommend it whole heartedly.  I really like their products and what they stand for, but problem after problem arose.  As apart of the campaign I was sent a $25 coupon to use on the store and review my experience.  I was REALLY excited!  I got my coupon in the mail, and since the store in my state is over 245 miles away from me, I must order online.  I had already scoped out what I wanted and was ready to order!  But when I went to use the coupon it said it was invalid.  After many attempts with many different items in the cart it still refuses to accept my $25 dollars....

But since I was to review my experience and not my purchase I'm still sharing what I saw and my personal opinion.

There were also many product prices that were quite a bit more expensive on FamilyChristian.com than I could get on the online stores I frequently use.  And like some, those dollars saved go a LONG way for me and my family.  Perhaps if I had been able to use the summer deal of Buy 1 Get 1 50% off, it would have helped also....

There are many aspects of the store I do still like, though.  When I choose to see products from the Lowest Price, Name A-Z, Newest to Oldest, etc. it saves that so even if I change from Music to books I don't have to start all over again in seeing it in the order I want.  They have a $5 deal on the book of the week (though there is shipping).  And they have special order on items they don't currently have in stock.  Meaning that if you find it on their store and they don't have it, they will get it for you from their partner or vendor.

There fix for the issue was for me to call support and order over the phone.  Since I don't talk on the phone this is not a fix for me....  Plus I wanted to review my experience online and not on the phone.

Overall from my experience I think I'll be sticking with christianbook.com. :/

P.S. the product recommendations are from the store itself.  I can not recommend the products because I either have not read, watched, used, or listened to them.  With exception to Miracles from Heaven (which I have seen, and HIGHLY recommend!  It is a FABULOUS movie) and of coarse veggie tales! ;)  I LOVE veggie tales! :D

The Loyal Heart Review!

The Loyal Heart by Shelly Shepard Gray

Book Description:

The Loyal Heart (Zondervan, July 2016)

Robert came to Galveston to fulfill his promise to a dying man and look after his widow. He didn't expect to find love in the unlikeliest of places.
Robert Truax, former Second Lieutenant and Confederate officer in the Civil War, made a promise to his comrade Phillip Markham. If anything happened to Phillip, Robert would look after his beloved wife, Miranda. She was his life, his world, his everything.

After the war, Robert is left to pick up the pieces and fulfill his pact. When he arrives at Miranda's home in Galveston, Texas, things are worse than he imagined. Phillip's name has been dragged through the mud, everyone in town believes him to be a traitor, and his widow is treated as an outcast. Even more disturbing is her emotional well-being. Miranda seems hopeless, lost, and so very alone.

Robert had thought his duty would be simple. He would help Miranda as quickly as possible in order to honor a promise. But the moment Robert laid eyes on her, his plans changed. He's mesmerized by her beauty and yearns to help her in any way he can.

He makes it his duty to protect Miranda, turn her reputation around, and to find some way to help her smile again. But it doesn't prove to be an easy task---Robert knows something about Phillip that could shake Miranda to the core and alter her view of the man she thought she knew so well.

My Opinion:
Good read.  I really liked parts of this book, while others I wish were a little different!  There's a great mystery hidden within that will continue (I hope) through the series.  Many questions come up as you read about these characters and only some are answered!  So of coarse I MUST go on! :D  There were definite lulls in the pace however.  Sometimes I wished some scenes were shorter or not quite as well described and detailed.  And there was one time when I felt it was repeating a scene a little....  However the characters are highly interesting and the sub characters are even more so!  I can't wait for some of their stories and to see what happens with them!  Especially since I'm still not sure where one characters loyalty truly lies! ;)

Clash of the Titles Author Spotlight!

Authors get stories from so many different places and experiences. It's always interesting to discover where the inspiration comes from. Today, we'll hear from debut author, Annette O'Hare. Her historical romance, Northern Light has already garnered some terrific reviews!

From the first sentence to the book’s stunning conclusion, Annette O’Hare’s brilliant first novel Northern Light captured my heart. O’Hare’s storytelling is flawless and her grasp of Texas history is spot on. This tenth generation Texan heartily approves! Do yourself a favor and savor this meeting of North and South on the Bolivar peninsula. I promise it will be the best book you’ll read in a very long time! —Kathleen Y'Barbo, best-selling author of over 40 titles

My Inspiration For Writing Northern Light

By: Annette O’Hare

Annette O'Hare
There’s a wonderful phrase known to authors that says, write what you know. This simple idiom by Twain, or was it Faulkner, no…I think it might have been Thurber, no it was definitely Twain who said it. Whoever it was knew what they were talking about and that’s why I wrote Northern Light. The setting for my debut novel is the lighthouse on the Bolivar Peninsula on the Texas coast; a place near and dear to my heart. A place I know very well.

When I was a child growing up in Houston, Texas in the 1970’s, my family visited Bolivar every summer for fishing, swimming, and shell hunting. My father would drive our family of five to Galveston, and then onto a short ferry ride connecting Galveston Island with the Bolivar Peninsula.

The ferry ride was a favorite part of the vacation. We made playful bets concerning which ferry we would ride. Would it be the Cone Johnson, the E.H. Thornton Jr., the R.S. Sterling, or the Gibb Gilchrist? We knew each boat by name. My two older brothers and I would save back French fries and pinches of bread from our fast food meals. After the boat was loaded and the captain gave the safety speech, we would bolt for the back of the boat to feed the seagulls and dolphins.

I always knew the exact place the ferry would dock at the peninsula because Daddy told me to look for the landmark. It was hard to find at first, but the closer the ferry came to Bolivar, the bigger it became. By the time the boat landed, the Bolivar Point Lighthouse was as big as a skyscraper in this little girl’s eyes.

http://annetteohare.com/images/misc/bolivarpoint-688.jpgOnce off the boat we drove past the iron lighthouse. Her light extinguished, she no longer lit the way for ships coming in or going out of Galveston Bay. Daddy always pointed out the two, abandoned keeper’s houses beside the lighthouse. He showed how one of the house’s nameplates read Boyt and the other, Maxwell. I didn’t understand the significance then, but later I realized the connection. Daddy’s aunt, my great aunt, was married to a Boyt, and she and her sister, my grandmother, were born with the surname Maxwell.

You’re probably wondering if my daddy’s family were the lighthouse keepers. No, the truth is that Mr. Boyt, my great-uncle, bought the lighthouse and property at an auction and it has been owned by that family ever since.

The original Bolivar Point Lighthouse dates back prior to the Civil War. In fact, it was during that war that the Confederates completely dismantled the lighthouse. Some accounts say it was so the Union wouldn’t use the light to
their advantage. Others say the Confederate army used the iron for weapons and artillery. Nevertheless, the lighthouse was rebuilt shortly after the war. The great conical tower has seen over 150 years of United States history and it still stands tall on the Bolivar Peninsula to this day.

Missing Review Part Two!

Missing by Lisa Harris

Book Description:
Nikki Boyd Enters the Deadly World of Counterfeit Drugs to Find a Missing Woman

Nikki Boyd isn't usually called in on homicides; her forte is missing persons. But when a case with two murdered and two missing pops up on a quiet suburban street, she's ready to start the investigation and find missing homeowners Mac and Lucy Hudson. When the first clues lead her to the boat of her friend Tyler Grant--and another dead body--Nikki must untangle what ties Tyler to the Hudsons. The clues pull her into a deadly maze of counterfeit drugs and a killer who will stop at nothing to silence anyone who threatens his business--including Nikki.

My Opinion:
There are times that I wish there were a few more Faith scenes through out the book as a whole, Nikki praying or her and Tyler talking more about God and Jesus.  But there are more scenes towards the end that I enjoyed!  Left with a cliff hanger and anxiously awaiting the next book there were also a few romantic scenes that I thought would go a little differently, but since the characters finally got closer to were I wanted them I'm good with it! ;)  LOL!  Fast paced, suspenseful, and filled with twists and turns!  Overall an excellent addition to this series!
