Love's Fortune by Laura Frantz
Sheltered since birth at her Kentucky home, Rowena Ballantyne has heard only whispered rumors of her grandfather Silas's vast fortune and grand manor in Pennsylvania. When her father receives a rare letter summoning him to New Hope, Rowena makes the journey with him and quickly finds herself in a whole new world--filled with family members she's never met, dances she's never learned, and a new side to the father she thought she knew. As she struggles to fit in during their extended stay, she finds a friend in James Sackett, the most valued steamship pilot of the Ballantynes' shipping line. Even with his help, Rowena feels she may never be comfortable in high society. Will she go her own way . . . to her peril?
With her signature attention to historical detail, Laura Frantz brings 1850s Pennsylvania alive with a tender story of loss, love, and loyalty. Fans will cheer for this final installment of the Ballatyne saga.
My Opinion:
Shock, mystery, twists, love, fear, stress, changes, and danger are only the beginning of describing Love's Fortune!!! The pace of the book is wonderful. A lovely ebb and flow of scenes ranging from high suspense and shocking, to sweet and lovable! There were some things that I wish had ended a little differently personally, but the messages of forgiveness and true love are amazing! From the beauty of Kentucky, to the glamour and stress of high society Pittsburgh, to the amazing Scotland, and more, these characters really cover ground! :D The search for a long lost family heirloom continues and comes to a close with the end of the series, though at a few high costs. Once again I don't want this series to end. I have come to really love all these characters and would love to read where real life history's changes would take these fictional families. Just at the brink of the civil war it would be interesting to see what happened, and the turns their lives take. I can't wait to see what Laura has next in store for us as readers! I highly, highly recommend Love's Fortune and The Ballantyne Legacy series filled with it's surprises and joy!
