To Win Her Favor Review Part 2!!!!!!!

To Win Her Favor by Tamara Alexander

Book Description:
To Win Her Favor (Zondervan, May 2015)

A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who could help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing forever.

An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He's come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and begin farming, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he'd wagered, especially when Maggie Linden's father makes him an offer he shouldn't accept yet cannot possibly refuse.

Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance---and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder---Maggie's father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail---Maggie must marry a man she's never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

My Opinion:
UGH!!!  Don't you just hate it when an author takes a GREAT book and then throws something in there that ruins the WHOLE THING! :/  This Part 2 has been a long time coming and I've prayed and prayed over it.  Anyone that read my part one review will know how much I was LOVING this book!  Sadly that is the problem with writing a part one review also.  It is amazing to me how a book can change so drastically.  I read other's reviews and waited to see how this controversial turn set with others.  You see there are graphic sex scenes added.  From what I read married woman had no problems with this because the characters themselves are married.  And yes God created the relationship between husband and wife to be a beautiful and special thing.  But as a single, unmarried woman I want to be able to pick up my Christian fiction book and know that there are some things that will not be graphically described, married characters or not.  I'm a BIG fan of the fade to black! LOL!  These scenes left such a bad taste that I still have not finished the book and don't know that I ever will.  And because Tamara decided to add these scenes I find it difficult to continue reading her books, because now I can't trust that the content will be clean.  :/  I still feel led to review this book, but now for an entirely different reason! :)  Isn't it amazing how God works?!  He will NEVER stop surprising me and I pray that I am fulfilling His will and purpose in this review.

  1. I can totally understand where you're coming from. I've never read this book, but I've read books that were well written, but they had too much sensuality for me to actually enjoy them. And that makes it even harder to review; you love certain parts, but other parts made you more uncomfortable. :-/

    1. EXACTLY Miranda! :) You're so torn!!!

When you have to skim through certain parts, but you're afraid you'll miss something important, it takes the fun out of it....and the cycle goes on. :(

I hope your next reads are all GREAT ones! :)

      Hugs, ASC
