Moonlight Masquerade Review!!!

*Moonlight Masquerade by Ruth Axtell
Book Description:
Lady Celine Wexham seems the model British subject. French by birth but enjoying life in 1813 as a widowed English countess, she is in the unique position of being able to help those in need--or to spy for the notorious Napoleon Bonaparte. When Rees Phillips of the British Foreign Office is sent to pose as the countess's butler and discover where her true loyalties lie, he is confident he will uncover the truth. But the longer he is in her fashionable townhouse in London's West End, the more his staunch loyalty to the Crown begins to waver as he falls under Lady Wexham's spell. Will he find the proof he needs? And if she is a spy after all, will he do the right thing?

Ruth Axtell deftly creates a world where black and white burst into a confusion of colors and no one is who they seem. Readers will be hooked from the very first scene to the final page.

My Opinion:
I really enjoyed Moonlight Masquerade, Ruth's writing style is great. I really felt like the characters could have been real. From describing pounding hearts, to character's trying to catch their breathe after following someone; Ruth really brought her characters to life throughout the book. I loved learning more about British and French society and how it was structured in the past as well as Napoleon and his inevitable fall. I loved the plot and the characters that filled it out with their different personalities and motives. Moonlight Masquerade was wonderfully paced up until the end. Hopping beautifully from one intriguing scene to the next! When it came to the end I did feel it drug a little, but when it finally came to the last chapter and epilogue it flowed and wrapped up marvelously, in my opinion. A great read and I can't wait to see where Ruth takes her characters next!

My songs for this book are:"It Is Well With My Soul" by David Baroni, "Minuets 1 and 2" by Scott Slapin, Viola, "Over the Moon" by Instrumental Music Group, and for a little fun! "Accidentally in Love" by Counting Crows
