Book Description:
Irish immigrant Seamus Hanley is a lost soul, haunted by his past as a U.S. Army deserter and living alone in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in 1849. But after witnessing a deadly stage coach crash, he finds purpose in the scattered wreckage -- a letter with a picture of a beautiful and captivating woman named Ashlyn living in San Francisco at the height of the Gold Rush.
Moved by her written plea for help, he abandons all and sets out on an epic journey across the wild and picturesque American frontier. While being pursued by those who want to hang him, Seamus encounters fascinating characters including a young Pauite Indian who makes the ultimate sacrifice in helping Seamus to cross the snowy Yosemite Valley.
Battered but changed for the better, Seamus reaches San Francisco on Christmas Eve as the city burns in the tragic fire of 1849. But there is little time for rest, as an even greater, more harrowing adventure involving Ashlyn is about to begin.
My Opinion:
After reading the book description I settled in for a grand adventure. But instead I got two or three! I do love when the author keeps things from the back cover to only reveal them within the pages of the book! In Golden Splendor does just that. What a fabulous book with twists, turns, and the fact that God knows way ahead of us what's going to happen and how it will affect us down the road! And I always love a book when the author names every chapter! The pace of the story didn't lag, it kept me intrigued throughout with all of the different characters. Some of the chapters were a little long for me sometimes, but others were great! There were some frustrating times I had with the character Ashlyn, but those were times when I wanted her to say or do something different than what happened. While I had some pieces of one of the mysteries some of the other things blew me out of the water!!! Seamus is a wonderful hero who is changed to an even greater man! From gold, to rights, to second chances In Golden Splendor will lead you through a great tale you won't soon forget! Showing you that when you walk out on faith great things can happen! Michael comes up with some of the greatest characters, and there are times when I wonder how, as a writer, he made sure to keep up with them all! :) They are all so unique and play their own roles beautifully intertwined together! From the mountains to the dessert. From the city to the forest and sea; this book takes you to them all! I can't wait for more! A beautiful story, wonderfully told, and flawlessly stitched together!
