Whispers On the Dock Review!!!

Whispers On the Dock by Evangeline Kelley

Book Description:
About Whispers on the Dock: Three sisters. A charming inn. Hints of mystery and romance. And a gorgeous seaside setting. Escape to Misty Harbor Inn.

As Nantucket reaches the pinnacle of its summer glory, and the Marris sisters welcome guests at Misty Harbor Inn, youngest sister Sam Carter enters her mother's cobbler recipe in the Summerfest baking contest. But she faces a formidable opponent, a past winner who is determined to keep her title even if it means stooping to dirty tactics. Can Sam's newfound faith help her rise above the fray and reach out to this lonely woman? Meanwhile, an elderly guest arrives who knows the inn's history, and the sisters are stunned to learn that their late mother lived there as a child. But she told them she'd never been to Nantucket until her honeymoon! Through the woman's reminiscences and photos, the sisters make an intriguing discovery --- not only about the mysterious Hannah Montague, the young woman who disappeared from the house in 1880, but also about their own family history.

Readers will delight in the inviting Nantucket setting and be enthralled by the adventures of these sisters who reunite to bring their mother's Misty Harbor dreams to life.

About the authors: Evangeline Kelley is the pen name for the writing team of Patti Berg, Pam Hanson & Barbara Andrews, and Camy Tang, the four authors who collaborated to create Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn. Each of them has published novels individually, but this is their first series together.

My Opinion:
Whispers on the Dock has some things I liked and some things I didn't like so much.  Let me start by saying that I hadn't paid attention when looking into this series like I usually do.  I didn't see that it is a Guidepost series.  I have had some issues and bad experiences with some Guidepost things so after I found this out I was a little wary.  So with lots of prayer I jumped in.  This is the first book in the series that I have read (I know it's weird for me to start in the end but sometimes that's pretty cool) anyway there were things that I felt like I missed from the previous books, but at the same time I didn't feel like I was completely lost in Whispers just because I hadn't read the other books.  I started to really like the characters and the mysteries within really captured my attention.  Overall I enjoyed it and liked the way it ended and the way things were tied up.  Now the things that bothered me a bit.  The first being that, for me, there wasn't enough prayer in it.  The characters go through situations where I feel they need to pray, and they wouldn't be so stressed if they consulted The One that loves them and knows all.  There where some prayers in the book mostly towards the endish, but I wanted a lot more.  The second issue I'm going to mention is when one of the characters tells the character that is writing a novel that they need to write for themself.  I don't feel that way.  My opinion is she should write for the Glory of God; The One that gave her the gift to write.  Anyway I really grew to love Caroline and the way the baking competition is wrapped in the story.  I also love that the story shows how God can even use our human mistake moments when we try to get even, but in the end he makes it for His glory!  I loved the way the mysteries were all wrapped up and the story really tied up in a nice package.  The only other thing that I wish Whispers had was recipes in the back.  So many delicious things where mentioned in detail and made in the book and there are NO RECIPES!!!  I was so disappointed!  But maybe being upset about the lack of recipes is just my thing. :)

Songs that I think fit are:  "Ocean Sounds" by Only Reflections, "How Great Thou Art (Instrumental)" Studio Musicians, and "Songs of Prayer 4 - Solo Piano Music for Prayer" by Chad Lawson

*I requested and received this book for the purpose of reviewing.  This in no way affected my opinion and the above is what I truly think about Whispers on the Dock. ~ASC
