Thirty Days to Glory Review!!!

Thirty Days to Glory by Kathy Nickerson

Book Description:
The story centers around Catherine Benson who longs to do one great thing before she dies and Elmer Grigsby who hopes to stay seriously drunk until he slips out of the world unnoticed. Against a Christmas backdrop, Catherine searches for purpose while fighting the infirmities of age and the best intentions of her children. She gains support in the battle from her faithful housekeeper and her quirky friends known as the Glory Circle Sisters. Elmer isn’t supported by anyone, except maybe his cat. When he opens the last whiskey bottle of the month, he knows it is time to shuffle down to the post office and pick up his government check. Somewhere in his fog, Elmer knows he was once a better man. That is why he stays in the fog. When their destinies intersect one Tuesday in December, they both discover it is only Thirty Days to Glory.

My Opinion:
Simply beautiful!  Thirty Days to Glory is a great story that combines completely different characters together in one tale.  I absolutely LOVE Kathy's characters!  Some are eccentric, some are optimistic, and most just made me smile and laugh!  From fears and frustrations that come with getting older to holding onto Faith and following through with prayer, this story takes you trough it all.  Kathy ties everything together beautifully and with a twist! ;)  Her writing is expressive and entertaining as she introduces you to each character and leads you through their lives.  This book moved me to tears and it's ending for me was beautifully sad all at once!  I do wish that it had ended a little differently.  There where, for me, a few ends that I felt weren't tied up completely, and I had a longing to know more of what happened to some of these people.  Especially since I got so attached to them because they are so relatable.  From the eccentric lady that refuses to not drive her own car, to the sweet grandma in constant prayer, to the wise pastor that gives sage advice, to the mother going through a midlife crisis!  This book has it all and much, much more!!!  These characters, messages, and the things I learned will stick with me for a very long time!

Songs within the story and that I think fit:
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by Chris Rice,
"O Holy Night (Album Version)" by Celine Dion,
"Silver Bells" by Martina McBride,
"Joy Unspeakable" by Donna Taylor,
"When They Ring Those Golden Bells" by The Cluster Pluckers,
"Do You Hear What I Hear?" by Andy Williams,
"The First Noel" by Bing Crosby,
"The Old Rugged Cross" by Brad Paisley,
"Handel: Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus" by London Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus,
"Joy To The World!" by Faith Hill

Psalm 92:13-14
